Greetings from Iowa! My name is Marla Owens who is married to the best man on earth. He is a wonderful gift from God to me. We have four adult children. Three are here in Iowa and one is in Ohio. We are so thankful for our children whom we love so very much. I am a born again believer in Christ Jesus. I sing with the praise team at Immanuel Baptist Church. When I'm not singing with the praise team, I'm singing in the choir. I used to be in a Southern Gospel quartet years ago as a teenager in the Southern Illinois area. I not only love to make cards but love to sing too. My husband and I work with Awanas each Wednesday night at our church. We enjoy working with the kids to help them memorize their Bible verses. We love the Bible. It is God's instruction book for us. It is a lamp unto my feet and a light unto my path. I praise the Lord and strive to serve Him in everything that I do. It is my goal to bless people as Christ has blessed me so graciously.
I got into crafting when I was growing up. My parents had me in 4-H and Girlscouts. I was in 4-H longer than Girlscouts. I made my children clothes when we lived in Indiana. When we moved to Iowa I gave up sewing and got started in Creative Memories. I have put together over 20 scrapbooks. Along with scrapbooking cardmaking held my interest. I started making cards in 1994. They were simple cards since there weren't many products to work with. My craft room used to be in the basement. In 2003 my crafting came to a hault. I had two major surgeries that year. It was also just too cold to craft in the basement. Our youngest son moved out of the house about three years ago. It was then that my husband suggested that we turn his room in to my craft room. He hated seeing all my supplies in the basement not being used. We moved all of my stuff up to Zach's room which was now my craftroom. John painted the room for me, put up a new curtain rod and new curtains and got me book cases from Target. He put them together for me. He also got me a new light fixture and installed it. Did I mention I have the best husband ever? Well I do! He has blessed me with dies, stamps, paper, die cutting machines and more. I am so thankful for my craft room. It has been a wonderful blessing to me. Making cards is so enjoyable to me. Our church comes out with a monthly newsletter. They list every birthday for the month in the newsletter. I try to make each person a birthday card. It is a ministry the Lord has given me. You never know who you can cheer up and bless with a card.

Instructions for the 5-1/2 by 8-1/2 inch card with a magnetic closure card attached.

Cut your base out of 130 pound card white card stock to 5-1/2 by 8-1/2 inches.  Cut your designer series paper down to 5-3/8th inches by 8-3/8th’s inches.  I usually cut it to 5-1/2 by 8-1/2 inches and just slightly cut it down to fit.  Do this for the back side as well.  Then cut your paper down to fit the inside of the card. Ink the edges of your designer paper.
I always decorate the inside first.  So attach your designer series paper with the Scotch ATG tape runner and then apply some Dries Clear glue too.  Once you have the inside paper done attach the paper you have cut down to fit the front and the back of your card.  Now it is time to die cut your pockets for the inside of your card as well as the inside of the magnetic closure card.  Ink the edges of your pockets.  Glue the one pocket on the inside of your 5-1/2 by 8-1/2 inch card.  Now it is time to work on the magnetic closure card.  Get one of the 5 x 7 Gateway Fold Cards and cut off one of the folds.  Ink the edges.  Now place your magnets on the inside with the Dries Clear Glue.  Cover them with some washy tape or some clear scotch tape.  Let dry before covering the inside with the Designer Paper.  You will need to die cut the Designer paper with the Gateway dies.  Once cut, apply your Dries Clear glue and attach to the inside after the magnets are dry and won’t move.  Now die cut the front panel, ink the edges and glue to the front of the magnetic closure card.  Attach the pocket to the inside left of your magnetic closure card.  Now it is time to make your tags.  I made two for the magnetic closure card and two for the 5-1/2 by 8-1/2 inch card.  I always die cut tags from the 130 pound card stock, die cut the designer series tags and attach one to the front of the white tag and one to the back of the white tag.  Now stamp them with whatever Bible Verses or sentiments you wish.  Place the ribbon in the holes and place tags into the pockets.  Now attach your ribbon to the front and back of your card. Make sure the ribbon is long enough to tie a nice bow to keep your card closed when giving it to the recipient.  Stamp a sentiment on the designer series papers and attach to the inside of both cards.  Now it is time to attach the corner die cut pieces to the front of the 5-1/2 inch by 8-1/2 inch card.  Then attach the magnetic closure card to the front.  Please remember you do not need any designer paper on the back of the magnetic closure card since it will be glued to the front of the bigger card.  Once your magnetic closure card is attached it would be a good time to place some half back pearls onto the corner dies.  I was going to do this but was not able to place them on this project due to time restraints.  But that is what I usually do.  Now make your leaves and flowers and spray them with glimmer mists and attach them to the front of the card along with any other embellishments you would like.  Place a Made by You sentiment on the back of your card.  Your card is now complete.

Instructions for the gift box:

I used a 130 pound 12 by 18 inch piece of white card stock to make the bottom of my gift box and a 130 pound 12 by 12 piece of card stock for the lid of the box.
Cut a 12 by 18 inch piece of card stock down to 9-3/8th’s inches by 12-3/8th’s inches.  Score at 1-1/2 inches all the way around.  Make your fold and cut your tabs (Do NOT Cut Your Tabs Off!) You will need your tabs to put the box together.
For the Lid cut your 12 x 12 piece of card stock down to 8-5/8th’s inches by 11=5/8th’s inches, score at 1 inch all the way around.  Make your folds and cut your tabs.  Make sure you do not cut your tabs off.  Again, you need the tabs to hold the lid together.
When attached your box bottom is 6-1/4th by 9-1/2 inches.  You need these measurement for cutting your designer series paper to the right size for decorating the inside and outside of your box.
The box lid is 6-5/8th’s inches by 9-5/8th inches.

For the front of the lid I die cut out two of the Climbing Clematis Birdhouses and backed them with a white die cut birdhouse out of the left over 130 pound card stock to give them strength.  I used an oval die to cut out the second one.  Embellish with your leaves, flowers, birds and ribbons.

I hope you enjoy making this project.  And I hope you understand the instructions.  Thank you so much for dropping by.

Here is the first 5-1/2 inch by 7-1/2 inch card with a 4-1/4th inch by 5-1/2 inch layer attached at an angle.  This was the first time to use the Heartfelt Creations Buttons and Blooms Collection.  I had been sent a card from Ben from Heartfelt Creations with the same design only on a smaller scale.  His card was 4-1/4 by 5-1/2 inches.  I took that idea and ran with it!  I loved how it turned out!  It was also my first time to make the flowers from this collection.  I discovered I need to buy some new buttons.  Can a crafter really have too many buttons?  I evidently don’t have enough.  The tag on the front has hemp cording.  I made a gift box to match the card using the Buttons and Blooms Collection.  This is my own tried and true gift box.  I came up with the measurements myself.  I’m so thankful for the skills God has given me.  I love making cards for people.  Being a blessing to others is so important to me.  There is nothing like getting a homemade card to brighten your day.
